Good afternoon team firefighter from the sunny and warm shores of Charleston West Virginia. Well, they may not be as nice as our California friends but this mild winter is awesome! Actually being able to ride OUTSIDE in January in WV is not heard of but it sure beats the indoor trainer zombies. I just received word that I will be attending FDIC in April and wanted to see if any of our team firefighter friends will be attending. I am looking forward to the biggest fire department conference in the world.
While cruising through the class selection I found the Courage and Valor 5k run on Thursday evening. Bam! Now you’re talking FDIC food, fun, fellowship and FITNESS! This is how things should work in our business. We should all take the time to engage in the fitness side of our profession to spread the word.
With that in mind I’m signing up for the 5k today, with one exception, I’m making the guy who is going with me sign up too! Yelp that’s right peer pressure time. To make things better he isn't a runner or endurance athlete and would be lucky to hit 2 miles right now.
The Ryan experiment is on. Can I get these non runners to participate in the 5k? Will they commit to training to make the distance by April? Will Ryan PR the 5k while training with the new runners (Shouldn’t be too hard because I am waaaaay slow runner) Stay tuned space fans while we watch the experiment unfold!
So come on team firefighters who, if any, are coming out to FDIC 2012? If we can get a few, maybe we can have a meet and greet the team? I would love to see whoever is coming out. Even better would be to have a group of team firefighter runners running. Who’s in?

We will arrive either late Wednesday or early Thursday. Don't know where we are staying at yet, but will be around till early afternoon on Saturday. Also thinking about the stair climb. Any takers? I will be doing some podcasts while in town if you might know of anyone who would like to jump on one give me a shout. Look forward to meeting up!
