As 2011’s clock is running down I suggest we all take a look at what we have accomplished this year. 2011 was a huge milestone year for me athletically, wow never thought of me as an athlete. Little over one year ago I found myself struggling to run a mile without stopping, now a half Marathon FINISHER! It’s amazing how we go through our fire service careers with blinders on. I certainly had a HUGE set on till 2011. I thought of myself as indestructible and had no clue on how out of shape I was!
It amazes me that every time there is a youtube video released of a fire how many OBESE firefighters there are. I truly feel there pain as I was one of them. I still struggle with my weight on a daily basis. But it’s time to look back before we can look ahead!
2011 for me was filled with accomplishments. Injury kept me from my first triathlon but saw finish line Personal Records in the 5k, 8k, and 10k running distances. By far the biggest accomplishment was crossing the line after 13.1 miles! Imagine a fat man that couldn’t run a mile without stopping crossing that line. I hate to sound like a wimp but it was very emotional. I can only imagine what it’s going to feel like when it’s the ironman distance finish line!
Don’t laugh but here are the stats from 2011....keep in mind I’m just starting!
Bike 1065 miles Run 230 Swim who knows...I’ll track in 2012 but a lot, still my favorite!
Not to shabby for a recovering FOOD addict! So let’s hear some numbers Team Firefighter. What was your total’s for 2011 and best of wishes in 2012! Let’s spread the word and lead by example!!

Nice
Nice work Bro!
I don't have all of my numbers for 2011. My Garmin Says 422 miles run and 1,335 miles on the bike. I like to occasionally leave my HR monitor and GPS at home to run by feel so I am sure it was a little more than that.
